Canberra's National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) is offering the perfect escape from the festive frenzy with a special season of classic Christmas films and beloved Australian cinema.
Pre-Christmas Classics on the Big Screen
The Archive invites you to slow down and embrace the holiday spirit in its beautiful heritage courtyard. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing glass of wine from Dom's cafe and bar before settling into the historic Arc Cinema for a cinematic treat. The pre-Christmas program kicks off at 8pm each evening with a trio of festive favourites.
Edward Scissorhands screens on Thursday, December 18, followed by the quintessential rom-com Love, Actually on Friday, December 19. The season continues with the perennial debate-starter, Die Hard, on Saturday, December 20. The courtyard will feature DJs setting the mood before each screening, followed by the Archive's special Xmas Party Mix of movies.
Post-Christmas Australian Film Celebration
For those in a post-Christmas haze, the NFSA has curated a selection of iconic Australian films. All screenings begin at 1pm and feature newly restored versions, offering a brilliant way to continue the holiday relaxation.
The lineup includes the timeless Storm Boy on Friday, December 26, the vibrant musical Starstruck on Saturday, December 27, and the coming-of-age drama The Year My Voice Broke on Sunday, December 28.
