The annual Christmas fete in Mt Lawley has been cancelled due to a funding crisis, leaving the community disappointed. The event, organized by the Sikh-led charity Turbans 4 Australia, was a staple for local families, offering toys and festive cheer.
Founder Amar Singh expressed deep concern over the cancellation, citing cost of living pressures as the primary reason. He noted that the charity could not secure enough funding to run the toy drive this year, which typically supports hundreds of children.
Singh described the situation as a real worry, highlighting that many families are desperate for assistance during the holiday season. The charity has seen a surge in demand for help, but resources have dwindled due to economic challenges.
Local residents have voiced their disappointment, with some saying the fete was a highlight of the year. The cancellation underscores the broader impact of rising costs on community events and charitable activities in the area.
