Three teenagers have been charged following a knife incident at Grand Central Shopping Centre in Toowoomba, which prompted a lockdown of nearby shops. The incident occurred just before 2pm yesterday outside Big W, with emergency services responding to reports of an alleged stabbing.
A 19-year-old man sustained minor injuries to his arm and was treated at Toowoomba Hospital. Police arrested a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old, both from Glenvale, and charged them with affray. They are scheduled to appear in Toowoomba Children's Court on June 11.
A 17-year-old Toowoomba boy was charged on Thursday with wounding, affray, and going armed to cause fear. He will appear in the Toowoomba Children's Court on Friday.
Inspector Jerome Winslade stated that police believe a group of up to six people were involved and that the individuals knew each other. He noted that the incident was not a random attack but a motivated issue between two groups who encountered each other in the shopping centre.
Inspector Winslade emphasized that carrying a knife in public is unacceptable and urged anyone with information to contact police. Investigations are ongoing, with police seeking to speak to four more individuals.
