A woman in her 70s has died and a 51-year-old man has been arrested after a stabbing at a home in Canberra's inner north. Police were called to the Dryandra Street residence in O'Connor just before 9am, where paramedics treated the woman for critical injuries before taking her to hospital. She was declared dead while being transported.
A man in his 70s was also injured in the incident and is in a stable condition in hospital. Police arrested the 51-year-old man at the scene and took him to hospital under police guard. Detective Acting Inspector Chris Watson from ACT Policing's Homicide Squad said the arrested man is a relative of the woman, but declined to clarify the relationship further as not all family members have been notified.
Police are still searching for a weapon at the scene. Detective Watson described the scene as 'confronting'. Charges are possible as the investigation continues. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
