Delta Goodrem Shines at Eurovision 2026, Qualifies for Grand Final

Australia's Delta Goodrem delivered a powerful performance at the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, becoming the first Australian act to qualify for the grand final since 2023. Dressed in a gown adorned with more than 7,000 Swarovski crystals and standing before a glistening crescent moon, Goodrem performed her power-ballad entry, Eclipse, with note-perfect precision.

The 41-year-old singer made a dramatic trek downstage to a bedazzled gold piano, where she performed a short solo. The performance climaxed with a key change as Goodrem was propelled into the air on a platform rising from the piano. Wind and fire effects accompanied her remarkable upper-range vocals, creating a refreshingly self-assured offering for Australia after disappointing results in recent years.

Goodrem entered the competition as an early favourite behind Denmark and Finland. Her track Eclipse is impressive but formulaic, and she faced stiff competition from 14 other solo female performers among the 35 countries competing. Despite playing it safe, her performance was precise and undeniable.

Australia's Eurovision history includes Jessica Mauboy's interval act in 2014, and entries by Go-Jo in 2025 and Electric Fields in 2024, both of which failed to progress beyond the semi-finals. This year, 35 countries are competing, the lowest number since 2003, due to boycotts by Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Slovenia, and the Netherlands over Israel's participation and its attacks on Gaza.

Ahead of her semi-final performance, Goodrem said she felt deeply connected to the Eurovision stage, carrying Australia with her in every note. She also announced her seventh studio album, Pure, will be released on 6 November. The grand final will air on SBS On Demand from 5am AEST on Sunday 17 May.
