Australian author Craig Silvey, best known for his award-winning novel Jasper Jones, has pleaded guilty to charges of possessing and distributing child exploitation material. The 43-year-old appeared in court on Tuesday but did not speak to media as he left.
Silvey was first charged in January after police raided his home and seized electronic devices. The investigation led to the discovery of illegal material on his devices.
Following the initial charges, several bookstores immediately removed Silvey's works from their shelves. Jasper Jones, which won multiple literary awards, has been a staple in Australian schools and libraries.
The court proceedings are ongoing, and sentencing is expected at a later date. Silvey has not made any public statements regarding the charges.
