Singer Chappell Roan has responded after footballer Jorginho accused her security guard of aggressive treatment toward his wife and stepdaughter at a hotel in São Paulo, Brazil. The Flamengo player posted on Instagram that his 11-year-old stepdaughter was left 'extremely shaken and cried a lot' after the guard spoke to them in an 'extremely aggressive manner' while they encountered Roan at breakfast.
Jorginho, who previously played for Chelsea and Arsenal, said his stepdaughter had not approached the singer but smiled while walking past Roan's table. He criticized Roan for not appreciating her fans, writing, 'Without your fans, you would be nothing.'
In a video response on Instagram, Roan said the security guard involved was not her personal security and that she did not ask him to approach the family. 'They weren't doing anything. It's unfair for security to just assume someone doesn't have good intentions,' she said. Roan apologized to the mother and child, stating, 'You did not deserve that.'
The incident sparked online criticism, including from Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere, who posted on X that Roan was not welcome to perform at the city's Todo Mundo no Rio music festival. Roan, 28, has previously emphasized boundaries with fans in a series of TikToks in 2024.
