7NEWS Perth Presenter Tim McMillan will host the broadcast, guiding viewers through the tribute and reflecting on Cometti's extraordinary career. 7NEWS Perth Sports Presenter Ryan Daniels will report live from the service as friends, family, and colleagues gather to honor one of the greats of Australian broadcasting.
Cometti's career spanned decades, starting as a radio announcer in Perth in 1968 while playing for West Perth in the WAFL. He worked for the ABC, Nine Network, and Seven Network, covering AFL, Test cricket, and three Summer Olympics. He was voted Television Caller of the Year a record 11 times and was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame and the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
Later this year, Seven will broadcast a documentary titled 'Centimetre Perfect' about Cometti's life and career, led by Bruce McAvaney. The state memorial service will be followed by extended coverage and reflections until 6:00pm AEST.
