Over 2500 Attend Free Family Day at East Fremantle Community Park
East Fremantle Park Draws 2500+ to Free Family Event

Massive Turnout for East Fremantle's Free Family Day

More than 2500 people flocked to a recent free family day at East Fremantle Community Park, creating a vibrant atmosphere of music, food, and fun for all ages. The event, known as East Freo Bites & Beats, was hosted by the Town of East Fremantle in partnership with Belgravia Leisure, transforming the park into a bustling community hub.

Entertainment and Activities Galore

Guests relaxed on picnic rugs while enjoying a diverse lineup of live music, including performances by East Freo local AC/DC tribute band Macca Dacca, 2024 Australian Idol winner Dylan Wright, and artists Matt Burke, James Wilson, and Coby Grant. The free entertainment extended into the evening, ensuring a full day of enjoyment for attendees.

Families engaged in a range of creative activities across the park, such as screen-printing with the town's public art panel, giant games, face-painting, and footy skills sessions with the East Fremantle Football Club. These all-ages activities provided something for everyone, from children to adults.

Food and Community Spirit

Food trucks offered a variety of treats, including dumplings, woodfired pizza, and fries, with additional food and sweet options courtesy of Carnaby's Cafe, Bar and Restaurant. The event fostered a strong sense of community, as noted by park venue manager Glen McCulloch, who said, "It was a thrill to see the community come together and enjoy a summer evening at the park."

McCulloch added, "Events like Bites & Beats demonstrate the potential of this precinct as a welcoming, safe and enjoyable space for each visitor, now and in the future." This sentiment underscores the event's success in promoting community engagement and park utilization.

Event Context and Future Plans

The Bites & Beats event was scheduled after the Town of East Fremantle decided last year to put the George Street Festival on hold while considering its scope, long-term sustainability, and the delivery of other community events. However, then-deputy mayor Tony Natale, CEO Jonathan Throssell, and a council report all clarified that Bites & Beats was not intended to replace the festival, but rather to offer a complementary community experience.

This free family day highlights the ongoing efforts to enhance community life in East Fremantle, providing a model for future events that bring residents together in a festive and inclusive environment.
