Chrissie Swan Reveals Pain of Gold Logie Backlash: 'I Was Eviscerated'
Chrissie Swan on Gold Logie Backlash: 'I Was Eviscerated'

Chrissie Swan has spoken candidly about the intense public backlash she faced following her Gold Logie nomination more than a decade ago, describing the experience as feeling "eviscerated" and likening it to being "viciously" torn apart.

The radio presenter and television personality received the nomination in 2011 after her role as host of Network Ten's now-defunct morning talk show, The Circle.

In a revealing interview with the Stellar podcast Something To Talk About, Swan admitted she still does not "really understand" why her nomination sparked such fierce criticism.

"I think I was being eviscerated because I dared be nominated for a Gold Logie back when the public bought TV Week and filled out the [form]," Swan told podcast host Sarrah Le Marquand.

"It was an extraordinary honour. I couldn't believe it. And I was eviscerated for that, which I still don't really understand. Everywhere I would look, there would be me and people debating whether or not I should have been nominated for a Gold Logie.

"It's like, 'Guys, it's not up to me and it's not up to you. Sorry. It's out of our hands.'"

In the interview, Swan also discussed how she has dealt with criticism throughout her career in television and radio. She revealed that reading a harsh article about fellow media personality Hamish Blake fundamentally changed her perspective.

"I [also] remember reading a really mean article about Hamish Blake and thinking, oh God, if someone can be mean about Hamish Blake, they can be mean about anybody," Swan said.

"It doesn't mean anything because Hamish Blake is heaven. So that sort of fixed it for me. I thought, well, they're just gonna write what they wanna write. It doesn't mean it's true."

Accepting that she cannot control public perception, the Nova broadcaster remains completely unfazed by her detractors.

"You can't change somebody's mind. I never try. If you have a preconception of me or you think I'm the sort of person that would do something or whatever you think of me, I'm absolutely fine with it," Swan told Le Marquand.

Elsewhere in the episode, Swan discussed co-parenting her three children with ex-partner Chris Saville, how going sober in 2021 changed her outlook, and revealed why she will "be working until the day I die."
