Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Heartwarming First Day in Melbourne
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have been warmly welcomed to Melbourne by delighted children, marking the inaugural stop of their whirlwind unofficial visit to Australia. The couple's first engagement was a trip to the Royal Children's Hospital in Parkville, where they were met by an enormous and enthusiastic crowd of fans and patients.
A Joyful Reception at the Hospital
One particularly overjoyed four-year-old patient, named Lily, greeted the Sussexes with a handmade welcome sign and presented the Duchess with a flower and a heartfelt hug. Meghan, sporting a sleek ponytail and a stylish navy blue belted dress, along with the Duke of Sussex, waved to the excited assembly as they began their morning meeting patients and hospital staff.
The former royal couple spent considerable time taking photos with the public, kicking off their short trip to Victoria's capital. Some children were armed with artwork, while others handed over toys and mementos for the Duke and Duchess, who couldn't contain their smiles during these interactions.
Garden Therapy and Humorous Moments
Following their hospital visit, the duke and duchess participated in a garden therapy session. During this activity, Prince Harry was asked if he would take a gum tree home. The former royal joked, "I would, but I think I'd probably get arrested at some point," eliciting laughter from those present.
It is noteworthy that Prince Harry's late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, opened the Royal Children's Hospital more than six decades ago, adding a layer of historical significance to their visit.
Additional Engagements in Melbourne
Later in the day, Meghan visited McAuley Community Services for Women, a homeless and family violence shelter, where she served lunch to a resident. Additionally, the couple left the Australian National Veterans Arts Museum (ANVAM) in Southbank, where Prince Harry shook hands with a veteran and prepared to take part in a model-making activity with veterans and their families.
This eventful first day sets the stage for their upcoming visits to Sydney and Canberra over the next four days, as they continue their unofficial tour across Australia.
