An Australian radio star has proposed a brilliant and unconventional idea to solve the biggest mystery in television: who will host the 2026 TV Week Logie Awards. The event, scheduled for August 16, has been the subject of intense speculation after Sam Pang ruled himself out of hosting for the fourth consecutive year.
Sam Pang Steps Down
Pang, who received widespread acclaim for his hosting duties from 2023 to 2025, confirmed his decision in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald last month. "I've had three great years, and it was wonderful, but I'm just not going to do it this year," he stated. When asked about potential successors, Pang suggested comedians Anne Edmonds and Kitty Flanagan, or The Cheap Seats duo Tim McDonald and Melanie Bracewell.
Industry insiders have indicated that Channel 7, which holds the broadcast rights, would likely prefer one of its own network personalities to take the reins. Potential candidates include Dr. Chris Brown, Sonia Kruger, or even the Celebrity Intervention hosts Mick Molloy and Glenn Robbins.
Liam Flanagan's Creative Proposal
On Friday morning, Triple M Gold Coast breakfast host Liam Flanagan shared a unique idea on his show. He proposed that the Logies organisers keep the host's identity a secret until the live broadcast, with a prerecorded video serving as the grand reveal. "Here's how you launch it. It's a prerecorded video … and standing there in a row, you've got all your potential hosting candidates," Flanagan explained. "So you've got Mick Molloy, you've got Shaun Micallef, you've got Karl Stefanovic … all standing there."
The radio host suggested that former Bachelor host Osher Gunsberg and Sam Pang should then appear for a comedic parody of The Bachelor. "You film a Bachelor rose ceremony, and it's Sam Pang holding the rose," he said. "So Osher does one of his amazing, serious pieces to camera … then you get Sam to have a bit of fun with all the possible candidates in Sam Pang style."
Flanagan envisioned Pang brutally eliminating the Australian celebrities one by one until only a few potential hosts remain. "You cut to black, and then a voiceover says, 'ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage, your host of the 2026 TV Week Logie Awards,' and whoever they've chosen comes out on stage," he added.
Osher Gunsberg Responds
News.com.au reached out to Osher Gunsberg to gauge his interest in participating. The former Bachelor host responded with a humorous twist: "I'll only do it if in the opening of the gag, where I'm standing next to Sam Pang holding his rose, he looks to me and says, 'Hang on ... you don't even host this anymore!' to which I sheepishly reply, 'sorry, it was worth a shot,' and then walk off while Sam Armytage takes her rightful place and commences the whispering." Gunsberg added, "That, and if you can get Warner Bros. IP lawyers over the line."
The ball is now in the Logies producers' court. What do you think of Liam Flanagan's suggestion? Let us know in the comments section below.
