Resurfaced Clip of Disney Star Insulting Fiancée Sparks Outrage

A shocking podcast moment has resurfaced in the wake of actress Mika Abdalla’s split from her actor fiance, Jake Short – and her fans are livid. Abdalla – who shot to fame in the last month on the viral Prime Video series Off Campus – announced via her publicist days ago that her five-year relationship with the former Disney star has come to an end.

In the wake of the split, a clip from a 2024 episode of The Sit and Chat podcast, hosted by Short and fellow Disney Channel star Bradley Steven Perry, has resurfaced. The episode features Abdalla as a guest alongside Natasha Bure, Perry’s now wife who is the daughter of Full House star Candace Cameron Bure.

During the episode, titled “Couples Therapy”, Perry asked Short how he would describe Abdalla – and his response is truly shocking. “I have two words,” the 29-year-old replied, smiling. “I’d be like, ‘Some b***h’.”

Both Perry and Bure – who were married one year later – were left visibly gobsmacked with Short’s remark, with Perry awkwardly responding, “Oh my god” while Bure’s jaw was close to dropping on the floor. Abdalla, 26, let out an awkward laugh as she noted that Perry had only nice words for his now-wife. “So, she’s the best person [Perry] knows, the best person he’s ever met, and I’m some b***h?” she asked Short.

However, Short remained unbothered as he laughed off his comments and told Abdalla to “Dap me up” as they exchanged a handshake. “We’re locked in over here,” he added. Elsewhere in the podcast, Abdalla, who was wearing a sleeveless top, told her fiance that she was “so cold” in the studio. When Perry and Bure encouraged him to give Abdalla his shirt, Short simply refused, saying, “I’m not taking it off.”

Fans online have since gone off on all fronts, from Reddit to X to Instagram, where Short’s comments have been called “rude”, “disrespectful” and “insensitive”. “The way he said it … Like I can just feel the contempt,” one commented, as another wrote, “That’s just f***ed up. To say that on a public podcast is insane, let alone in private. Yuck.” “Men continue to embarrass and disappoint. And he thought he was being funny, too! I’m extra offended,” one person added, as one echoed, “Referring to your long-term partner as ‘some b***h’ is so nasty, I don’t even care if it was a joke.”

Abdalla and Short’s break-up comes after news the actress will take centre stage in Season 2 of Off Campus when the story focuses on her character Allie Hayes’ relationship with Dean Di Laurentis (played by Stephen Kalyn). Off Campus has been renewed for Season 2 after recording 36 million viewers in just 12 days from its May 13 release. The series follows an elite college ice hockey team and the women in their lives as they try to skate through love, heartbreak and self-discovery while studying at the fictional Briar University. Season 1 centred around music major Hannah Wells (Ella Bright) and star hockey captain Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli). The unlikely pair strike a fake-dating deal: Hannah tutors Garrett so he can stay on the team, and he helps make her crush Justin Kohl (played by Aussie actor Josh Heuston) jealous with their faux romance.
