Bec Judd Unfollows Nine, Backs Stefanovic After Sacking

Influencer Bec Judd has unfollowed Nine and the Today Show on Instagram and publicly criticised the network for sacking Karl Stefanovic. The former Nine weather presenter and Postcards host expressed her support for Stefanovic after the broadcaster announced his immediate departure amid controversy over his independent podcast.

Judd's Statement on Freedom of Speech

In a post to her Instagram story, Judd wrote: "I believe in freedom of speech and balanced news reporting. No matter what side of politics you sit on, everybody deserves the right to their opinion, even if you don't agree with it." She added that "freedom of speech nurtures critical thinking, prevents groupthink and allows people to build a tolerance for perspectives that are outside their own. Most importantly, it is integral to a strong democracy."

Stefanovic Breaks Silence After Exit

Stefanovic broke his silence on Friday following his abrupt exit from Nine, ending a 21-year career. In a monetised YouTube video, he said: "I'm free, truly independent. I didn't get the chance to thank my free-to-air audience for 21 great years, so thank you for riding the ups and downs, you have my thanks and you have all of my love." He also explained the philosophy behind his independent podcast, stating that Australians should hear a range of perspectives and make up their own minds.

Judd's move comes amid broader debate about media freedom and editorial independence. The influencer, who has a significant social media following, used her platform to voice her disagreement with Nine's decision.
