Former New South Wales Premier and federal foreign minister Bob Carr has spoken publicly about the sudden death of his wife, Helena, while they were on a tour of Europe. The couple were in Vienna attending opera and visiting galleries when Helena died unexpectedly.
In his new memoir, 'Bring back yesterday', Carr reflects on the profound loss and the life they shared together. He describes how, after returning to Sydney, he took to walking the streets late at night to cope with his grief.
Helena Carr was born to Chinese and Tamil parents in Taiping, Malaysia. The couple were known for their close bond and were almost inseparable throughout their marriage.
The memoir also touches on the work and politics that both Bob and Helena were involved in, separately and together. Carr's reflections offer a personal look at a public figure's experience of sudden loss and mourning.
