WA Football Media Guild Awards 2025: Seven West Media Dominates
Seven West Media Wins Big at WA Football Media Awards

In a resounding endorsement of their football coverage, a host of Seven West Media journalists and presenters have been celebrated at the 2025 WA Football Media Guild Awards. The event, held on Thursday, 13 November 2025, saw the media giant's team recognised for a comprehensive year of reporting on the sport across Western Australia.

Individual Excellence Takes Centre Stage

Craig O'Donoghue emerged as a standout performer, securing two prestigious awards. His exclusive story and photograph of West Coast star Harley Reid sitting next to Sam Mitchell at Tom Barrass's wedding earned him the Jack Lee Award for Best Print News Story. Furthermore, O'Donoghue's brilliant coverage of Fremantle's dramatic last-gasp victory over Port Adelaide in August was awarded the prize for Best Print/Digital Match Coverage.

The night's most prestigious individual honour, the Geoff Christian Medal, was awarded to Seven caller Mark Readings. The medal acknowledges his outstanding work across several media platforms throughout the football season.

Team Success and Career Recognition

The collaborative effort of The West Sport Show was also celebrated, with the program being named the Best Football Program for 2025. This award highlighted the work of O'Donoghue and his fellow hosts, Glen Quartermain and Mitchell Woodcock, along with producer Josh Cable.

In a nod to a distinguished career, Mark Duffield was honoured with the Dennis Cometti Award for Excellence Over A Career. This recognised his immense contribution to the WA football industry across four decades, most of which was spent at The West Australian.

Honouring Local and Regional Contributions

The awards also shone a light on excellence beyond the metropolitan area. Cam Newbold from the Albany Advertiser received the Country Football WA Media Award. Meanwhile, the Perth Football League Media Award was posthumously awarded to the recently-departed The West Australian journalist and photographer, Kelsey Reid.

The success of Seven West Media's team at the Guild Awards underscores their dominant and respected position in covering Australian rules football in Western Australia, delivering insightful and exclusive content to fans.
