One of the Bellarine Peninsula's most celebrated wineries is set to dramatically expand its offerings with a multi-million dollar accommodation development that promises to redefine luxury wine tourism in the Geelong region.
Scotchmans Hill, the family-owned winery that has been a cornerstone of Drysdale's wine scene for decades, has unveiled ambitious plans for a $12 million on-site accommodation precinct that will see 16 luxury villas constructed amidst its picturesque vineyards.
Transforming the Visitor Experience
The proposed development represents a significant evolution for the winery, which has long been a favourite destination for wine enthusiasts visiting the Bellarine Peninsula. The new accommodation will allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in the vineyard experience, waking up to stunning views of rolling hills and grapevines.
'This is about creating a complete wine country experience,' explained a spokesperson for the winery. 'Guests will be able to stroll through the vineyards, enjoy wine tastings just steps from their accommodation, and truly connect with the terroir that makes our wines unique.'
Economic Boost for Regional Tourism
The development is expected to provide a substantial economic boost to the broader Geelong region, creating numerous jobs during construction and ongoing employment opportunities once operational. Local tourism operators are anticipating increased visitor numbers and longer stays in the area.
The timing aligns with Victoria's growing reputation as a world-class wine tourism destination, with the Bellarine Peninsula increasingly recognised for its cool-climate wines and stunning coastal landscapes.
Design and Sustainability Focus
While specific architectural details are still emerging, early indications suggest the villas will feature contemporary design that complements the natural landscape, with strong emphasis on sustainability and environmental sensitivity.
The development application, now before the City of Greater Geelong, includes provisions for enhanced visitor facilities that will benefit both overnight guests and day visitors to the winery.
If approved, construction could commence within the year, marking an exciting new chapter for one of Victoria's most respected wine producers and positioning the Bellarine Peninsula as a must-visit destination for luxury wine tourism.
