Perth's Quinns Rocks Beach to Get New Universal Access Fishing Platform
Anglers in Perth's northern suburbs will soon have a brand-new, fully accessible fishing platform at Quinns Rocks Beach, with construction scheduled to begin later this year. The City of Wanneroo is leading the project, which aims to provide a safe and inclusive vantage point for fishing enthusiasts of all abilities.
Design and Features of the New Jetty
The platform will branch off the southern groyne near the Frederick Stubbs Carpark, featuring ModWood decking, seating, and handrails with lowered sections to ensure full accessibility. Additional amenities include:
- A fish cleaning station with mesh beneath
- Solar lighting for evening use
- Safety ladders
- Kerbing on all edges
- A new raised access path
Vessel mooring or berthing will not be permitted on the platform, which has a design life of 25 years, ensuring long-term durability and safety for users.
Community Support and Planning Process
The project originated from community requests in 2021, evolving into a formal feasibility study in 2023 to evaluate locations across Quinns Rocks and Mindarie. Extensive engagement with local fishing clubs, Recfishwest, Fishability, and State Government stakeholders helped shape the final blueprint, with overwhelming support noted.
A community survey revealed that 97 per cent of respondents backed the installation of a universal fishing platform in either Quinns Rocks or Mindarie, highlighting strong public endorsement for the initiative.
Location and Infrastructure Advantages
The Frederick Stubbs Carpark site was selected due to its sheltered conditions from high waves and proximity to essential infrastructure, such as:
- Parking facilities
- Public toilets
- Nearby cafes
- Accessible beaches
This strategic choice aims to enhance convenience and safety for all visitors, making it an ideal spot for recreational fishing.
Timeline and Costs
Detailed design work has been completed at a cost of approximately $11,000, with the total project budget yet to be finalized. Approvals from the council and State Government are expected by June 2026, paving the way for construction to commence in November 2026 and conclude by April 2027.
This development represents a significant investment in community infrastructure, promoting inclusive outdoor activities and boosting local tourism in Perth's northern coastal areas.
