Brisbane Hotel's 6am Sunbed Rush Sparks Etiquette Debate

A video showing guests queuing at 6am to secure sunbeds at Brisbane's The Calile Hotel has ignited a debate over pool etiquette. The TikTok clip captures a line of people rushing to claim spots by the pool, with one woman jokingly posting, 'No one stress, we got a chair, safe for another day.'

The hotel, located on James Street, has a policy that cabanas cannot be reserved or pre-booked. A spokesperson confirmed that if day beds are unoccupied for more than 15 minutes, staff will reallocate them. During busy periods, a three-hour time limit applies to cabana use.

Many viewers criticized the early-morning rush, with one saying, 'Waking at 6am to nab a chair isn't my idea of a relaxing weekend for the amount of money the Calile costs per night.' Another commented, 'Glad I saw this. Was considering booking... but definitely won't now.'

However, some defended the hotel, noting signs about the three-hour limit and staff enforcement. The hotel stated its pool team works to ensure all guests enjoy the pool deck, especially during peak times like Christmas and school holidays.
