Pitcher and Iron: Subiaco Dessert Eatery to Close After 8 Years
Pitcher and Iron Subiaco Closing After 8 Years

Perth locals with a sweet tooth have been left devastated after a popular western suburbs dessert restaurant announced it will close its doors after eight years.

A Sweet Goodbye

Pitcher and Iron in Subiaco, located on Railway Road, has become a hotspot for dessert lovers since it first opened to the public in 2018. The restaurant describes their menu as “combining the best of Belgium with a twist”, with their extensive range of sweet and savoury waffles attracting wide praise from locals.

The acclaimed eatery shocked its loyal patrons on Wednesday when they shared their plans to close the Subiaco store. “After an unforgettable journey, the time has come for us to say goodbye,” a statement to the restaurant’s 6,700 followers began. “To every customer who walked through our doors, shared a laugh, celebrated milestones, brought friends, enjoyed a late-night dessert, or simply made us part of your day — thank you. You turned a small waffle house into a place filled with memories, conversations and connections. We are endlessly grateful for the support you’ve shown us over the years.”

Chef Reflects on Decision

Head chef Edwin Stevanus told PerthNow the decision to close the popular eatery had left the team saddened. “We’re sad about closing Pitcher & Iron after an unforgettable journey, but we’re incredibly grateful to the community, our customers, and the food bloggers who supported us along the way,” he said. “We’d love to welcome everyone back one last time for their favourite waffle, coffee and a final memory with us before we close.”

Mr Stevanus explained there were a number of factors that contributed to the decision. “Like many small hospitality businesses, we’ve been under pressure from rising operating costs, supply chain challenges, and a difficult trading environment,” he told PerthNow. “After a lot of thought, we felt it was the right time to close this chapter.”

Community Reaction

The Subiaco store’s post quickly gained traction among the western suburbs community, with regulars expressing their shock over the sudden news. “You have been our favourite spot in Perth and we travel all the way from Bunbury — thank you for all the wonderful memories,” one diner shared. “The best waffles in all of Perth, thank you for all the wonderful memories,” another wrote. “So sad to see you close,” a third patron added.

Pitcher and Iron will be serving its final waffles before they close their doors for good on June 21. The Subiaco dessert hub is just the latest in a string of restaurants across Perth that have closed in recent months. Maylands cocktail bar Volare Bar announced on Wednesday they would be shutting their doors on Saturday. Trendy Asian-inspired eatery Ludo will also close their South Perth restaurant for the last time on Sunday after years in the community.
