Albion Park Bypass Designs Finalised to Ease Gridlock

The final designs for the Tripoli Way extension, also known as the Albion Park bypass, have been completed, bringing motorists closer to relief from road congestion. The project aims to divert through traffic away from the Albion Park central business district, reserving the area for local vehicles.

The two-kilometre road corridor will feature four lanes between Terry Street and Moles Street, including a 30-metre bridge over Hazelton Creek. The bypass will provide a direct route for drivers heading to the motorway, bypassing the congested CBD.

The project became a key issue during the 2023 NSW election, with both major parties pledging funding. That commitment was reaffirmed during the 2025 Kiama byelection, won by Labor's Katelin McInerney. The NSW Government has allocated $40 million for the project.

Minister for the Illawarra Ryan Park described the design completion as a significant milestone, stating it will ease congestion and improve road connectivity. Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison praised local advocacy, particularly from Member for Kiama Katelin McInerney, for driving the project forward.

Construction is scheduled to begin later this year. Ms McInerney said she would work to keep the project on schedule, noting the long wait for residents of Albion Park, Calderwood, and Tullimbar. She emphasised the project's role in making daily trips safer and easier.
