The property, located at 33-35 Olympian Parade in Leura, was sold to a Sydney-based buyer. The previous record for a Blue Mountains property was $10.5 million, set in 2021. The $16.5 million sale represents a 57% increase over the previous benchmark.

According to Xanthoudakis, the sale attracted significant interest from buyers across Australia. "We had multiple offers, but the eventual buyer was captivated by the estate's history and its unique position in the market," he said.

Historic Estate Features

Built in 1914, Leuralla is a sprawling 2.4-hectare property with a main residence, guest house, and extensive gardens. The estate was originally the home of the Hordern family, prominent retailers in Sydney. It later became a museum and tourist attraction, housing the NSW Toy and Railway Museum until 2020.

The property includes a 20-room mansion, tennis court, swimming pool, and formal gardens designed by Paul Sorensen, a renowned landscape architect. The estate also features views of the Jamison Valley.

Market Context

The record sale comes amid a strong luxury property market in the Blue Mountains, driven by demand from Sydney buyers seeking lifestyle changes. "The Blue Mountains have seen a surge in interest since the pandemic, with buyers looking for space and natural beauty," Xanthoudakis noted.

Real estate data shows that the median house price in Leura has risen 25% over the past year, reflecting broader trends in the region.
