A new housing estate in Mareeba is set to offer families the chance to own a home with a spacious backyard, a feature becoming increasingly rare in modern developments.
Development Details
The project, known as the Mareeba Heights Estate, will consist of 150 lots, each with generous block sizes ranging from 600 to 800 square metres. The developer, Mareeba Property Group, has emphasised the importance of outdoor space for families, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has highlighted the value of having room to move.
Director of the group, John Smith, stated that the estate is designed to cater to families who want a traditional Australian lifestyle. “We are seeing a strong demand for homes with big backyards, where kids can play and families can entertain,” he said. “This development is a response to that demand.”
Location and Amenities
The estate is located on the outskirts of Mareeba, a growing town in Far North Queensland known for its agricultural industry and proximity to natural attractions. The development will include a park, walking trails, and a community centre. It is also close to schools, shops, and medical facilities.
Mareeba Shire Council has approved the development, with Mayor Tom Gilmore expressing support. “This estate will provide much-needed housing options for families in our region,” he said. “It will also create jobs during construction and boost the local economy.”
Pricing and Availability
Lot prices will start from $180,000, with house and land packages available from $450,000. The first stage of the development is expected to be released for sale in early 2025, with construction beginning shortly after.
Smith said that interest has been strong, with many inquiries from both local families and those looking to relocate from southern states. “Mareeba offers a great lifestyle at an affordable price, and we expect this estate to be very popular,” he added.
