The City of Fremantle is rolling out the welcome mat for investors and businesses, launching a major new digital platform to showcase opportunities as the city prepares for its most significant transformation in four decades.
A Generational Opportunity Unlocks
At the heart of Fremantle's revitalisation is the long-planned relocation of its working port functions to Kwinana, expected to be completed by the late 2030s. This shift will free up a substantial amount of prime waterfront land at the Inner Harbour, creating what city officials describe as a "generational opportunity."
The new Invest Fremantle website is designed to give investors, developers, and entrepreneurs a clear, strategic view of the city's future. It details key investment precincts and a pipeline of major projects, aligning with the recently adopted Economic Development Strategy 2030 and the new City Plan.
A $1.8 Billion Development Pipeline
The scale of change coming to Fremantle is underscored by a massive development pipeline valued at approximately $1.8 billion. This wave of investment includes:
- Mixed-use developments and major residential projects.
- New hotels and significant heritage restorations.
- Cultural infrastructure projects across the city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Notable projects featured include the Fremantle Oval precinct redevelopment, the Woolstores development, and the new Garde Hotel.
By 2040, the city centre is projected to welcome an extra 10,000 residents and workers. Looking further ahead to 2050, plans envision green corridors linking the city to the waterfront, alongside substantial increases in accommodation and commercial space.
Business Confidence on the Rise
Local business leaders report a palpable surge in optimism. Fremantle Chamber of Commerce CEO Chrissie Maus stated there is "definitely renewed business confidence" and that Fremantle is positioned for "sensational" long-term growth.
"From boutique accommodation, to hospitality groups, to creative industries, the mix is shifting and that’s a sign of a healthy future," Ms Maus said. She emphasised that attracting more business hinges on providing certainty in planning and timelines.
Matthew Hammond, the City of Fremantle's Director of City Business, said the launch of Invest Fremantle unites the city's strategic vision with practical marketing. "Fremantle is in a period of renewed business confidence, with investors, developers and local operators recognising the city’s unique strengths and long-term potential," he said.
The website also aims to foster local connections by including a professional services directory and will feature business success stories, investor campaigns, and a quarterly newsletter.
