A well-regarded barbershop businessman has been told he is lucky he did not kill innocent people after he was caught drink driving following a celebration in Wollongong.
Grahame Ramos, 32, pleaded guilty to mid-range drink driving at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday. Police pulled him over at about 10.20pm on March 27 after he was seen speeding and driving dangerously on Flinders Street and Keira Street.
Ramos returned a positive roadside breath test and was taken to Corrimal Police Station, where he recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.098. He told police he had consumed five drinks of bourbon and Canadian Club that night.
His lawyer, Zali Kelly, said Ramos had been celebrating the opening of a new barbershop in Shellharbour at The Builders Club. She described his behaviour as an extremely poor lapse in judgement and noted he had completed the Traffic Offenders Program.
Magistrate Michael Love fined Ramos $750 and disqualified him from driving for four months. He must also install an alcohol interlock device in his vehicle for one year after the disqualification period ends.
