The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has given the green light to the proposed merger between Seven West Media and Southern Cross Media Group, a move expected to reshape Australia's media sector.
On Wednesday, the ACCC announced it would not oppose the transaction, concluding that the deal is unlikely to substantially lessen competition. The watchdog noted that the two companies operate in distinct media markets.
ACCC deputy chair Mick Keogh explained that Southern Cross and Seven attract different advertisers and are not close competitors for advertising opportunities in their respective regions.
