In a significant boost to Western Australia's energy security, AGL Energy has inked a crucial agreement to accelerate development of the Kwinana Swift Gas Power Station, marking the state's first major gas-fired electricity project in more than ten years.

The energy giant has secured an engineering, procurement and construction contract with a joint venture between leading firms Monford Group and Wärtsilä, clearing the path for construction to commence on the 100-megawatt peaking plant.
Located in the industrial heartland of Kwinana, approximately 40 kilometres south of Perth's CBD, the facility is designed to provide rapid-response power during periods of peak demand or when renewable generation dips.
