Amazon Australia has announced plans to hire 850 seasonal workers across the country, including 147 positions in Western Australia, ahead of its major Prime Day sales event.
Opportunities in Perth's Eastern Suburbs
Almost 150 West Aussies will soon experience what it is like to be on the delivery side of the parcel process, as the retail giant opens a flurry of seasonal vacancies in Perth's east. The international retail giant revealed last week that it is recruiting 850 Australians across five states to prepare for the massive Prime Day sales.
Among the openings are 146 delivery and fulfilment roles in Perth, with most vacancies available at the company's Jandakot and Kewdale facilities. The seasonal positions will involve picking, packing, and shipping orders from warehouses across the nation. Delivery roles are also available for workers who prefer being on the move.
No Experience Required
Michelle Theophilou, a senior HR manager for the e-commerce site, stated that Sandgropers wishing to apply only need to bring their enthusiasm. 'We provide all training on-site, so no experience is required, and over the years we've welcomed many people who have never set foot in a warehouse before,' she said. 'All we're looking for is enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved. For many, what has started as a seasonal role has become the beginning of a long-term career at Amazon.'
Prime Day Hiring Surge
The WA vacancies are just a small subset of the available positions across Australia. Amazon's Sydney warehouses are seeking 435 staff members across six fulfilment centres. The massive hiring initiative comes ahead of Prime Day, which is the e-commerce giant's biggest sale of the year.
Arno Lenior, the Asia-Pacific Director of Amazon Prime, said Prime Day is particularly beneficial to Australians as living costs continue to rise. 'At a time when Australians are looking to make every dollar count, Prime delivers more value than ever,' he said.
Cost-of-Living Context
The announcement follows a recent study by YouGov, which discovered that 45 per cent of West Aussies are looking to sign on for additional work within the next six months as a result of rising cost-of-living rates.
