South Coast Line Trains Cancelled Due to Urgent Repairs

Trains on the South Coast Line between Waterfall and Thirroul have been cancelled due to severe weather conditions at Coalcliff. Transport for NSW advises travellers to delay trips if possible or consider alternative transport options. Replacement buses have been ordered but are not currently available.

Services between Thirroul and Wollongong have resumed following infrastructure repairs between Scarborough and Coalcliff. However, buses will continue to supplement services until train operations return to normal. The cancellation was caused by urgent infrastructure repairs needed between Scarborough and Coalcliff.

The incident occurred just before 8am on Thursday, February 26. By 8.45am, replacement buses were organised. Commuters were left waiting at stations across the Illawarra, with one passenger at Wollongong station reporting little communication from train staff.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson stated that trains are unable to run through the affected area. Repair crews are on-site, but there is no forecast for when trains will resume. Services will be less frequent with larger gaps between Kiama and Central. Passengers are advised to allow extra travel time and check announcements.

This is the second major delay on the region's transport network this week, following a ute rollover on the M1 Princes Motorway at Mount Pleasant on Tuesday. The crash caused extensive delays for southbound motorists back to the Picton Road intersection.
