A herd of cows caused major train disruptions across Britain on Tuesday after wandering onto the West Coast Mainline, one of the country's busiest railway arteries. The incident led to delays and cancellations affecting thousands of passengers.

The cows entered the track near Lichfield, Staffordshire, around 6:30 a.m., prompting Network Rail to halt services between London Euston and key destinations including Birmingham, Manchester, and Glasgow. Passengers faced delays of up to 90 minutes, with some trains completely cancelled.
Network Rail deployed specialist teams to safely remove the animals, a process that took over three hours. The cows were eventually herded back to their field without injury.

Avanti West Coast, which operates services on the line, reported that 12 trains were cancelled and dozens more delayed. A spokesperson said: "We apologize to passengers for the disruption caused by this unusual incident. Safety is our top priority."
