A 21-year-old man has been charged after allegedly punching and kicking two police officers while naked on a beach on the New South Wales South Coast.
Officers were called to Bawley Beach at Bawley Point around 7:30pm on Friday following reports of a welfare concern. As they approached, police allege the man, who was naked, became aggressive and assaulted a male senior constable.
When officers moved in to arrest him, the man allegedly punched a female constable in the head before continuing to struggle. Police allege he then kicked the same male officer in the face, causing serious facial injuries.
The 21-year-old was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital under police guard for assessment. The injured officer was also taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
Around 5:10am on Saturday, the man was discharged and taken to Nowra Police Station. He was charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a police officer on duty (reckless), two counts of assaulting police, and hindering or resisting police.
The man was refused bail before appearing in Bail Division Court 3 on Saturday, where he was granted conditional bail.
