A 42-year-old Wyong man is facing court after allegedly threatening bottle shop staff with a syringe and later leaping onto the bonnet of a police car. Police were called to a business on the Pacific Highway at Wyong around 8pm on Tuesday, January 28, following reports of an attempted robbery.
Officers were told that a man had entered the store, produced a syringe, and threatened staff while demanding money before fleeing. No injuries were reported from the incident.
Tuggerah Lakes police patrolling the area stopped a man late Tuesday night. According to police, the man jumped onto the bonnet of their vehicle and threatened officers with a syringe.
Police subdued the man by tasering him, and he was arrested with the assistance of a police dog unit. The man was taken to Wyong Hospital under guard for treatment of a dog bite.
He has been charged with multiple offences related to the alleged robbery and the arrest. Police refused bail, and he was ordered to appear before Bail Court on Wednesday.
