Car ploughs through Sydney restaurant
A Subaru station wagon crashed into Benvenuti Cucina Italiana Carlton on Princes Highway at Carlton just after 1pm on Thursday. CCTV footage shows the car losing control, hitting a power pole, and smashing into the restaurant, sending tables and chairs flying. The driver and his female passenger, in her 70s, escaped major injury, though the woman was hospitalised as a precaution. Restaurant owner Michael, who had just entered through the back door, heard a "big bang" and witnessed the destruction. The business, open for five years, will be closed for several days for power restoration and repairs.
