An occultist podcaster who murdered his partner during a domestic violence attack has been sentenced to life in prison. Tobias Marcus Nuttall, 33, learned his fate on Thursday, having previously pleaded guilty to the stabbing death of Alisha Lauren Hendren-Krippner, 30, at their home in Bassendean, Perth, on August 20.
Courtroom emotions and victim impact
Family and friends of the victim packed the courtroom, with tears flowing as they saw her killer face justice. In a victim impact statement, Hendren-Krippner's father said he would be haunted for the rest of his life by the day he received the call about the attack.
Details of the attack
Hendren-Krippner was stabbed at least nine times less than 30 minutes after the couple returned home from a trip to Sydney. She was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital but could not be saved and died the same day. The court heard the pair had consumed drugs the night before, and Nuttall told doctors he was coming down from methamphetamine.
Nuttall's background and podcast
Nuttall is a former co-host of a podcast called WakingWorld, which discussed the “occult, magic, spirituality, and everything clandestine”. Hendren-Krippner had appeared on the show just weeks before her death. Nuttall delved into the supernatural and conspiracies on his podcast.
Plea and sentencing
Nuttall maintained that Hendren-Krippner had reached for the knife first but admitted tackling her to the ground and killing her. He pleaded guilty to murder in March and was jailed for life with a non-parole period of 18 years.
