Police arrest multiple people in Dezi Freeman investigation
Multiple arrests in Dezi Freeman manhunt probe

Police investigating how cop killer Dezi Freeman evaded authorities for seven months have made multiple arrests, raiding seven rural properties across Victoria and NSW.

A 64-year-old man arrested in Wodonga and a 47-year-old man arrested just outside Goulburn will be interviewed by police.

Authorities carried out four raids in NSW and three in Victoria on Tuesday as part of the major investigation into how Freeman managed to stay on the run after murdering two police officers.

One property raided was in Buckland, near Porepunkah where Freeman murdered two police officers and seriously injured a third. Another property was in Stanley, and the third in Lucyvale.

The Lucyvale property is about 90 minutes from Thologolong, where fugitive Freeman was finally found and shot dead in March.

Freeman had triggered a huge months-long manhunt after shooting dead Senior Constable Vadim De Waart-Hottart and Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson at his home at Porepunkah, in Victoria's High Country, in August 2025.

The raids were still unfolding on Tuesday afternoon, with police seizing a range of electronic devices from the homes, likely computers and mobile phones.

The breakthrough comes as the mother of murdered officer De Waart-Hottart released an emotional 988-word statement saying her son did not die in vain. Carolina De Waart-Hottart says her family is "frayed to shreds" and that "the only way evil can proliferate and survive is if good people turn their back and do nothing".
