Details of the incident
The incident occurred at the Merrifield City shopping centre car park on Donnybrook Rd in Mickleham about 7.28pm on Monday. The victim was struck by a grey Mitsubishi Lancer. CCTV footage released by Fawkner Highway Patrol officers shows the man walking through the car park before appearing to notice the approaching vehicle and sprint across the roadway. However, he did not make it across in time.
“It is believed the man was walking in the shopping centre car park on Donnybrook Rd when a grey Mitsubishi accelerated towards him about 7.28pm,” police said. “The car struck the pedestrian and drove off, leaving the man injured in the car park.”

Police allege the vehicle accelerated towards the pedestrian before the collision. Detectives are investigating whether the driver and victim were known to one another.
Police appeal for information
Police have released images of the grey Mitsubishi Lancer involved in the incident and are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam or CCTV footage, or recognises the vehicle or driver to come forward. The hit-and-run came less than 24 hours after another serious collision on Donnybrook Rd. A 15-year-old boy was critically injured after being struck by a white Hyundai while riding a bicycle about 5.45pm on Sunday. The female driver stopped at the scene and was interviewed by police. Investigations into both incidents are continuing.
