Two schools in Melbourne's west were placed into lockdown on Friday morning following an alleged aggravated burglary that triggered a police operation to apprehend three teenage suspects.
Incident at Tarneit home
Police were called to a residence on Tenterfield Place in Tarneit around 7:20am after reports of three suspicious males. Authorities allege the trio entered the backyard of the property, with one suspect climbing through a bathroom window to gain entry inside.
The female occupant confronted the group, who then fled on foot. She was not physically injured in the incident.
Schools locked down as precaution
As a safety measure, nearby St Francis of Assisi Primary School and Thomas Carr College were placed into lockdown while police searched for the suspects. Both schools resumed normal operations after the arrests.
Arrests made
All three teenagers were taken into custody a short time later. A 17-year-old boy from the Wyndham area and a 19-year-old man from Tarneit were arrested near the intersection of Sunset Views Boulevard and Equinox Close. During the arrest, the 17-year-old was tasered and subsequently treated by paramedics.
A 15-year-old boy from the Hobsons Bay area was arrested in a rideshare vehicle on Fifth Avenue in Altona North.
All three are expected to be interviewed by police. It is not yet clear whether anything was stolen from the property.
Investigation ongoing
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.
