Former cycling champion Rohan Dennis has allegedly been caught behind the wheel while banned from driving for five years following the death of his wife. The Olympian, who is prohibited from driving until 2028 over an incident that killed his wife Melissa Hoskins, was reportedly stopped by police in Adelaide on Thursday.
Incident Details
Police are understood to have intercepted the 36-year-old in Adelaide’s inner north around 4pm. Authorities allege he was driving despite the five-year disqualification imposed by the South Australian District Court in May 2025.
Dennis had previously pleaded guilty to an aggravated charge of creating likelihood of harm over an incident outside the couple’s Medindie home in late 2023. On that occasion, Hoskins was struck by the car Dennis was driving after the pair became involved in an argument.
Court Proceedings
During the court hearing, it was revealed that Hoskins was attempting to prevent Dennis from leaving the home. She later died in hospital. In sentencing, Judge Ian Press determined that Dennis was not criminally responsible for causing her death.
Dennis received a 17-month suspended sentence and was placed on a two-year good behaviour bond, which remains active until 2027. He was also banned from driving until 2028.
New Allegations
Following the latest incident, Dennis has been reported for driving while disqualified, and his vehicle has been impounded for 28 days. Police have confirmed that Dennis will appear in court at a later date.
