A multi-storey residence in Yarralumla, in Canberra's inner south, was completely destroyed by a major fire on Friday evening. Emergency services responded to multiple triple-zero calls about the blaze on Schomburgk Street at approximately 7:29pm on July 10, 2026.
Occupants Unharmed, No Injuries Reported
The owners and occupants of the home were not present at the time of the fire, and an ACT Emergency Services spokesman confirmed there were no injuries. A neighbour described the fire as "full-on," with flames reaching "up to the trees" and extensive smoke blanketing the area.
Witnesses Describe Dramatic Scene
The witness only became aware of the fire after a man ran through the neighbourhood "thumping on doors." The man told residents he had smelled smoke from nearby shops. Authorities advised people in the vicinity to close their windows and remain indoors due to the heavy smoke.
Fire Contained, Investigation Underway
Firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control, but the home suffered extensive damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation. This is a developing story, and more details are expected to emerge.
