More than 100 firefighters are working to contain the fire, which has already destroyed the warehouse and threatens nearby structures. The Houston Fire Department reported that the fire started around 6 a.m. local time and quickly spread due to the presence of flammable materials inside.
No injuries have been reported so far, but officials have evacuated nearby businesses and residences as a precaution. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Impact on Community
The smoke plume is visible for miles, and air quality alerts have been issued for surrounding neighborhoods. Residents are advised to stay indoors with windows closed. The fire has also disrupted traffic on major roads near the scene.
According to Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña, the warehouse contained a variety of industrial materials, which contributed to the intensity of the fire. He stated, "This is a significant incident, and we are committed to bringing it under control as quickly as possible."
The fire is expected to burn for several more hours, and firefighters are using foam and water to suppress the flames. The American Red Cross has set up a shelter for displaced residents.
