Father Troy Bobbin, the beloved parish priest of Amaroo in Canberra's north, has died after a period of medical treatment, the Catholic Church has confirmed.
Parish Priest's Passing Confirmed
The Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn announced the death of Father Troy Bobbin on Tuesday, describing him as a dedicated and compassionate priest who served the community with unwavering commitment. He was 49 years old.
According to a statement from the archdiocese, Father Bobbin had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed medical condition in recent months. He died peacefully at a local hospital, surrounded by family and close friends.
Community Mourns Loss of Devoted Priest
Father Bobbin was appointed as the parish priest of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Amaroo in 2018. He quickly became a pillar of the community, known for his warm personality and deep faith. Parishioners have expressed shock and sadness at his passing.
"Father Troy was more than just a priest; he was a friend, a mentor, and a source of strength for so many of us," said longtime parishioner Mary Thompson. "His homilies were always inspiring, and he had a way of making everyone feel welcome. He will be deeply missed."

Remembering Father Bobbin's Ministry
Born in Queanbeyan, Father Bobbin was ordained as a priest in 2004 after studying at St. Paul's National Seminary in Sydney. He served in several parishes across the archdiocese before his appointment to Amaroo, including roles in Goulburn and Queanbeyan.
In a tribute, Archbishop Christopher Prowse described Father Bobbin as "a faithful servant of God who touched countless lives through his ministry." He added, "His dedication to the Church and his community was evident in everything he did. We pray for the repose of his soul and for comfort for his loved ones."
Father Bobbin is survived by his parents and siblings. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
