CCTV Evidence Reveals Detailed Timeline
Newly released CCTV footage has provided a detailed timeline of the movements of an Australian man charged with the murder of a 14-year-old Thai girl. The footage, obtained by Thai police, shows the suspect, 32-year-old Lachlan Robert Quigg, at various locations in the hours leading up to and following the alleged crime.
Suspect's Movements Traced
According to Thai authorities, the CCTV timeline begins at 6:30 PM on June 24, showing Quigg leaving his apartment in Pattaya. He is then seen purchasing items from a convenience store at 7:15 PM before heading towards a beach area where the victim was last seen alive. At 8:45 PM, footage captures the suspect near the beach, and by 9:30 PM, he is seen returning to his apartment alone.
Discovery of the Body
The victim's body was discovered the following morning at 7:00 AM by a local resident. Police say the girl had been strangled and her body left in a secluded area. The CCTV timeline shows Quigg leaving his apartment again at 6:00 AM on June 25, wearing different clothing, and returning at 7:15 AM.
Arrest and Charges
Quigg was arrested on June 26 at his apartment and has been charged with murder. During a press conference, Thai police Colonel Somchai Phromsorn stated, "The CCTV evidence is crucial in establishing the timeline of events. We have a clear picture of the suspect's movements before and after the crime."
Legal Proceedings Underway
The suspect is currently in custody awaiting trial. The Australian government has been notified and is providing consular assistance. If convicted, Quigg faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment or the death penalty under Thai law. The case has drawn significant attention in both Thailand and Australia.
