Vance to discuss 2028 run with wife after midterms

US Vice-President JD Vance has revealed that he will discuss a potential 2028 presidential run with his wife, Usha, following the 2026 midterm elections. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Vance provided insight into his decision-making process regarding a future White House bid.

Vance's comments on his political future

During the interview, which focused on his new memoir Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith detailing his conversion to Catholicism, Vance stated: "Usha and I will absolutely sit down and talk about what comes next for our family." He added, "People sort of assume that I'm sitting around, figuring out whether I'm gonna run for president … the way that I make decisions is that I try not to make them until I absolutely must."

The vice-president expressed confidence that former President Donald Trump would support whatever decision he makes. "I have no doubt that the president of the United States is going to be very supportive of anything that I ultimately decide to do," Vance said.

Vance also noted that he never initiates discussions about his future political plans with Trump. "I never bring it up. But sure, the president brings it up a lot, sometimes publicly, sometimes privately. You know, the president's a political animal. He loves this stuff. He's very fascinated by it."

These remarks come amid speculation about Vance's ambitions following his tenure as vice-president. The 2028 Republican primary is expected to be highly competitive, with several potential candidates already positioning themselves.
