A devastating tragedy has struck a Los Angeles family after a mother allegedly killed her six-day-old infant, toddler, and husband before taking her own life in a suspected murder-suicide.

The family of four were discovered dead with gunshot wounds inside their home by Los Angeles Police Department officers. Authorities have identified them as Marine Basmajian, 30, her husband Khajag Basmajian, 31, and their two children Alec and newborn daughter Ella, according to The Sun.

Marine died from a self-inflicted wound to the head, according to the medical examiner, who added that Khajag and the two small children also died from similar injuries. Further details have not been released by authorities.

A preliminary investigation has revealed evidence pointing to an alleged murder-suicide. It remains unknown what led to the catastrophic incident. Emergency services rushed to the property after reports of a disturbance on May 27. The police investigation is ongoing.

Neighbors Express Shock and Grief

Next-door neighbor Florence Narreras said she had not noticed anything out of the ordinary on the evening of the incident, telling ABC7 that the last time she had seen the family was before baby Ella was born. Other neighbors described the family as quiet and reserved, according to the San Fernando Valley Sun.

Andrea Morales, who lives just two houses away, said she never expected that anything like this could ever happen. "It's so depressing, it's so devastating for everyone," she said. Karen Banuelos told the Los Angeles Times, "To get possessed to do that? It's just, there's no words." She also remembered hearing a commotion.

Ms. Banuelos recalled seeing police arrive at the family home from her window, and later witnessed a family member running out of the house in tears. She said the neighborhood community only found out what had happened after the children's grandfather spoke to a neighbor.

An anonymous neighbor added that they had never seen the family argue. They said they had seen Khajag take the rubbish out at around 7 p.m., about an hour prior to the alleged incident. Paula Smith, another local resident, said she had heard helicopters but had no idea what was happening. "[We woke up] this morning and to hear about this and these kids, it's really heartbreaking," she said. "So go home and love the people you love. If someone is hurting, please reach out. Don't be ashamed."

Family and Community Mourn

A spokesperson for the Basmajian family expressed devastation over the losses. "Our family is devastated by the tragic loss of Khajag Basmajian, his wife Marine, their son Alec and their newborn daughter Ella, just six days old," they said. "In a single moment, we lost an entire young family who were deeply loved by everyone who knew them. Khajag was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, brother and friend. To know him is to love him."

The spokesperson continued, saying that Khajag had a positive outlook on life and a beaming smile. "He was truly a friend you could count on," they said. "Alec brought joy and laughter wherever he went. With his bright smile and cheerful eyes, taking after his father, he loved his toy vehicles and getting a taste for life one bite at a time (ice cream was his favourite). Alec couldn't wait to meet his baby sister Ella, who only lived to see the world Earthside for six days."

Relatives have launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses. At the time of writing, the campaign has raised more than $US 176,000 (about $AU 247,000), surpassing the original goal of $150,000 ($210,000). The family spokesperson said, "As we face the unimaginable task of honouring and laying four beloved family members to rest, we are asking for support to help cover funeral, memorial and other unexpected expenses during this difficult time. Our goal is to help support our family so they can focus on healing, remembering their lives, and preserving their legacy. Every donation, prayer, and share is deeply appreciated."

Tributes have been flowing for the young family who were lost in a single moment. The community remains in shock, grappling with the incomprehensible tragedy.
