In a rare and touching display of their close relationship, Princess Catherine has shared a special musical moment with her daughter, Princess Charlotte. The mother and daughter were filmed performing an emotional piano duet for Catherine's annual Christmas concert, offering a heartfelt glimpse into their family bond.
A Surprise Musical Performance
The intimate performance featured the Princess of Wales and the young princess sitting side-by-side at the piano, playing 'Holm Sound' by Scottish composer Erland Cooper. This pre-recorded segment was created for Catherine's 'Together at Christmas' carol service, which was held at Westminster Abbey on December 5.
While the video was not shown during the live event, it was broadcast as part of ITV1's Christmas Eve special. The royal family later shared the beautiful clip on their official social media channels, where Princess Catherine captioned it simply: "Love and connection through music."
The Royal Family's Festive Involvement
The footage opens with the piano duet before cutting to scenes of guests arriving for the cherished carol service. It also captures a charming family moment where Prince William and Princess Catherine are seen with their three children—Prince George, Prince Louis, and Princess Charlotte.
The family is shown tying personalised red paper chains onto a Christmas tree outside the historic Abbey. Each chain bore the name of a family member, symbolising their collective participation in the festive tradition.
A Message of Connection and Simple Kindness
Princess Catherine narrated a letter to the service's attendees, which formed a central part of the video's message. "At its heart, Christmas speaks of love taking form in the simplest, most human ways," the Princess reflected. "Not in sentimental or grand gestures, but gentle ones."
She emphasised the power of small acts—"a moment of listening, a word of comfort, a friendly conversation, a helping hand, presence"—and noted that these simple gestures contribute to "the beautiful tapestry of life to which we all belong."
Throughout the video, Catherine spoke on how the Christmas season reminds us "how deeply our lives are woven together" and that even during times that feel "fragmented or uncertain," the festive period "invites us to remember the power of reaching out to one another." It is understood the Princess specifically wanted this segment to highlight these core values of connection.
A Tradition of Music and Gratitude
This is not the first time Princess Catherine has showcased her musical talent at the concert. In 2021, during the inaugural service, she played the piano alongside singer Tom Walker.
The carol service itself, now in its fifth year, was launched by the Princess of Wales as an opportunity to thank the countless people across Britain who dedicate their time to volunteering, fundraising, and supporting vulnerable members of the community.
"Thank you for the warmth you have given and the kindness you have shown, and the quiet constant light you bring to others," Princess Catherine said, closing the video. "Wishing you a very Happy Christmas."
