The Israeli military has stated that it will continue its operations in southern Lebanon despite the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah on Friday afternoon. Shortly after the truce was declared, smoke was observed rising from the hills in southern Lebanon.
Deadly Day Preceded Ceasefire
The ceasefire came after one of the deadliest days in the conflict since March, with 47 people killed in Israeli strikes. The Israeli army also confirmed that four of its soldiers had been killed.
US-Iran Talks Abruptly Halted
In related developments, US-Iran talks were abruptly called off after Israel and Hezbollah traded deadly attacks. The city of grief hit hardest by Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon remains a focal point of the conflict.
