A 91-year-old man has been charged with murder and refused bail after his wife was found dead at their home in Adelaide's western suburbs. Police identified the victim as Maria Dimasi, 85, a well-known figure in the local Italian community.
Officers discovered Mrs Dimasi's body inside a residence in Findon around 11:20 pm on Saturday following reports of an incident at the address. Police stated the investigation is in its early stages and that the husband is expected to appear in court today.
Tributes have poured in for Mrs Dimasi, with flowers left at her home. She volunteered at Nonna's Cucina, a community meal service where her grandson, Stefan Dimasi, serves as executive chef. Nonna's Cucina president Rebecca Staltari posted a tribute on social media, praising Mrs Dimasi's dedication and warmth.
Catholic nun Sister Quintilia, who visited the home for over 20 years to provide communion and support, expressed shock, describing both the victim and her husband as kind people. Adelaide's Radio Italiana 531 also paid tribute, calling Mrs Dimasi a 'sweet, smiling soul' who brought joy to everything she did.
