Day nine of the 2026 Wimbledon Championships delivered compelling quarter-final action as Jasmine Paolini and Taylor Fritz booked their places in the semifinals with commanding straight-sets wins.
Paolini Overcomes Noskova in Straight Sets
Italy's Jasmine Paolini defeated Czech teenager Linda Noskova 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and 28 minutes on Centre Court. The 30-year-old Italian, seeded seventh, displayed remarkable consistency and composure to advance to her second consecutive Wimbledon semifinal.
Paolini broke Noskova's serve three times while saving four of the five break points she faced. The match was tighter than the scoreline suggests, with the first set featuring five breaks of serve before Paolini seized control.
"I'm really happy with how I played today," Paolini said in her on-court interview. "Linda is a very talented player, and I knew I had to be aggressive from the start. I'm excited to be in the semifinals again."
Fritz Powers Past Zverev
American Taylor Fritz, the 12th seed, produced a powerful performance to dispatch fourth-seeded German Alexander Zverev 6-4, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 on No.1 Court. The 28-year-old from California fired 14 aces and won 82% of his first-serve points to reach his third Wimbledon semifinal.
The pivotal moment came in the second-set tiebreak, where Fritz dominated to take a commanding lead. Zverev, a two-time Grand Slam finalist, struggled to find his range on return and converted only one of six break-point opportunities.
"I served really well today, and that was the key," Fritz said. "Alexander is such a tough opponent, so I'm very pleased with how I executed my game plan."
Other Quarter-Final Results
In other quarter-final action, Belgium's Elise Mertens defeated Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-3, while Italian Flavio Cobolli overcame Frenchman Arthur Fery in a five-set thriller 3-6, 7-5, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-4.
Semifinal Lineup Taking Shape
Paolini will face Mertens in the women's semifinals, while Fritz meets Cobolli in the men's draw. The winners will advance to their respective finals, with the women's championship match scheduled for Saturday and the men's final on Sunday.
Paolini is seeking her first Grand Slam title after finishing runner-up at Roland Garros earlier this year. Fritz, meanwhile, is aiming to become the first American man to win a Grand Slam since Andy Roddick at the 2003 US Open.
