Welcome to day eleven of Roland Garros, where an Eastern European and Italian takeover is underway on Philippe Chatrier.
First Match: Chwalinska vs Kalinskaya
The qualifier Maja Chwalinska faces the 22nd seed Anna Kalinskaya. Chwalinska, who came through the junior ranks with Iga Swiatek before their careers diverged, had won only one grand slam match before this tournament. Now the 24-year-old is in the quarter-finals, a stage Kalinskaya, 27, admitted she didn't expect to reach either, having only advanced this far at a major once before, at the 2024 Australian Open.
Sabalenka's Dominance
This is familiar territory for Aryna Sabalenka, the only grand slam champion left in the women's and men's draws. She meets another surprise quarter-finalist, Russia's Diana Shnaider. Sabalenka laid down a marker with a blistering win over Naomi Osaka, prompting Shnaider to concede the match is likely a chance to gain experience for the future.
Auger-Aliassime vs Cobolli
Felix Auger-Aliassime, for the first time in his slam career, is the highest-ranked player left in his half of the draw. That half may have lost Jannik Sinner but still features three Italians: Flavio Cobolli, Matteo Berrettini, and Matteo Arnaldi. Auger-Aliassime faces Cobolli in a tough match; Auger-Aliassime has big-match experience while Cobolli is a fine talent.
Night Session: Berrettini vs Arnaldi
In the night session, renaissance man Matteo Berrettini, back from injury, meets marathon man Matteo Arnaldi, who has already played 18 sets to reach this point.
Play begins at 11am local time (10am BST).
