The home of one of Western Australia’s largest rugby clubs is in line for a major redevelopment, with modern changerooms and a revamped clubhouse planned at Wanneroo Districts Rugby Union Club.
Stage One and Two Plans
Stage one of the project will deliver new changerooms at the Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex, with completion expected by July 2027. Stage two, which involves redeveloping the existing clubroom building and expanding facilities for players, families and volunteers, is currently in planning.
The project will be delivered in partnership with the State Government and the City of Wanneroo and is expected to create more modern, welcoming and inclusive spaces, particularly to support the growing number of female players participating in rugby union.
Funding Boost
The project was boosted last week by a further $2 million in State Government funding, building on a $1 million 2025 State Election commitment to the club.
Club History and Growth
The Wanneroo Districts Rugby Union Club was established in April 1981 after the merger of the Sorrento and Wanneroo clubs. The club has grown to become one of the State’s most prominent rugby organisations, supporting hundreds of junior and senior players, ranging from under-4 “Roopups” through to senior Roodogs teams. Its Kingsway Reserve facility was constructed in 1983 and underwent enhancements in 2007, 2010 and 2013.
Community and Political Support
Landsdale MLA Daniel Pastorelli recently joined Premier Roger Cook and City of Wanneroo mayor Linda Aitken at the club to announce the funding. He believes the upgrades would be a major win for the northern suburbs rugby community.
“I’m proud to say that with this investment, the mighty Roodogs will be home to the best rugby union facilities in the northern suburbs, and arguably the best in the metro area,” Mr Pastorelli said. “These facility improvements will make a real difference for players, families and volunteers, and help create a more inclusive environment that encourages more women and girls to get involved in the sport.”
